Jordana Bernstein is an interdisciplinary artist born in New York City. They are currently based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their practice integrates collage, photography, stop motion animation, sewing, printmaking, drawing, writing, research and more.

Their work is characterized by all over compositions, vibrant colors, and contrasting patterns. Their work is also characterized by central compositions, muted or harmonious color and complementary elements. Or sometimes both, simultaneously. They create site-specific sculptural installations using appropriated found objects, discarded textiles, personal clothing, household items, and the belongings of deceased loved ones. Through these materials, they explore themes of identity, memory, fragmentation, accumulation, loss, erasure, abandonment, preservation, concealment, revealment, generosity, refusal, contradiction and hallucination.

Their artistic practice is driven by a passion for learning, creative expression, and human connection. They arrange, layer, and combine fragments of materials sourced from their ever-growing collection. Then, using additive and subtractive techniques like cutting and pasting across mediums, they “sculpt” their work.  At its core, their work is a means of communication—they hope that those who encounter it feel less alone. Ultimately, they aspire to not only share their own perspective, but to amplify the voices of others whose stories have yet to be heard.
